Diaspora for Development (D4D)

The project consists of three specific outcomes:

1. BiH Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees and BiH Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with government institutions at different levels, use and further develop their instruments to actively connect, exchange, and engage with diaspora members and organizations.
2. Local governments align their development strategies to the diaspora policy framework at higher government levels, provide more and better services to diaspora members, and encourage community initiatives to attract diaspora know-how and investment.
3. Diaspora partners transfer know-how and skills and make joint investments with private sector actors in BIH, contributing positively to key economic indicators.

Results achieved thus far include:

• Diaspora Web Portal in function as a key mechanism for two-way communication and engagement
• Cross-governmental coordination mechanism established through nomination of Working Group members from 31 institutions for the development of Diaspora Strategies at the BIH, FBIH and BD level
• 47 diaspora experts engaged in transfer of knowledge to public institutions in BIH
• 14 community initiatives implemented in 14 LGs, engaging diaspora and contributing to improved quality of life for 447 households 
• 46% increase in the number of diaspora members using local public services
• 11 investment projects worth 6,623,617.63 BAM implemented
• 384 new jobs created in private sector (30% of women)
• Transfer of knowledge support by diaspora provided to 80 companies
